A Plasmatic effect is a visual representation of the oxygenation that takes place during DMK’s signature Enzyme Facial.
The ‘Veiny’ road map is created by the downward pressure caused by the tightening of the Enzyme Masque. It stimulates the circulatory system to pump fresh
oxygen and nutrient-rich blood through the capillaries causing them to dilate. This fresh, oxygenated blood brings with it nutrients to feed our skin cells while eliminating toxins, stagnant blood and other dead cell derbies through the Lymphatic system, making this treatment very detoxifying.
Just like oxygen is essential for us to live, our blood and cells also require oxygen. It creates the energy our cells need to survive and stimulates the production and regeneration of collagen and elastin, giving our skin structural integrity.
We treat a full range of skin concerns. Our aim is to rebuild and revise your skin from the inside, out and enzyme therapy facials have many other benefits.
The professional masque contains enzymes which our body recognises to strengthen the structures of our skin cells. These enzymes help to create an optimum environment for our cells to thrive and helps to re-educate skin back to its youthful state.
The enzyme masque is left on the skin for 45 minutes. In this time, it will continue to dry and harden, holding the facial muscles in a static position, working to give your skin firmness and tone.
With the use of DMK’s professional pre-exfoliates, we also treat the skin topically.
This means that acne, scarring, pigmentation and redness can all be corrected. Every clients skin care journey is fully personalised, with no two treatments ever being exactly the same.
Our highly trained skin specialists will be with you every step of the way, providing their wisdom, support and skin tips.
It’s a difficult time that we are currently going through. Wether you are trying to cope with acne, congestion, age-management, we are all missing our tailor-made professional skincare treatments.
Now is the time to do as much as we can with our skin at home, to ensure that once those salon doors open again, your therapist can jump back into treatments and pick up where we left off.
Correspond with your therapist, we are still here to help. Talk to her about what your skin is like, what your current skincare routine is and send her photos. This way she can get as much information as possible and come up with some tips and tricks to boost your skin as much as possible.
Incorporating Home Facials are an excellent idea, not only now but it’s something you can continue to maximise your skin results.
DMK offers Foamy Lift packs which are weakened, home versions of the enzyme facial you now & love. These treatments will continue the rebuilding phases of your skin journey.
Another option is for you to do an Exfoliation & Masque treatment at home.
For example, using the Lira Iluminating Polisher & following it with the Iluminating polisher will give you similar results to our in salon Vita Brita facial, but your therapist will recommend which products will best suit your concerns. This will ensure you are removing any build-up of dead cell material and then hydrating, balancing & calming the skin with your masque as well as nourishing and feeding your skin with all the great actives in the products.
It is also a good idea to think about your stress levels– it will play a major factor in your skin at this time, and let’s be honest, we are all stressed right now!
Studies have shown that stress causes the hormone, Cortisol, to rise within the body. These stress related triggers cause an increase of sugar to be pumped into our systems, creating a very inflamed state. A natural and beneficial way of reducing cortisol levels can be promoted by the use of Chinese herbal medicine.
Regul8’s Relax formulation is based on Chinese herbal medicines. These capsules will help to reduce cortisol levels in the body and increase alertness and clarity during times of mental fatigue or strain. They contain specific herbs to help relieve nervousness and restlessness, relieve mild anxiety and assist with healthy adrenal functions.
The health of our gut is also crucial. Up to 70% of our immunity lies in our gut so keeping it happy & healthy is very important. The DMK essential fatty acid supplements (EFA’s) are an all-natural plant-based supplement that look after our skin and our gut internally. They aid in reducing inflammation & redness, keep all of our cell membranes strong and healthy and help to thin out oil in the skin to prevent congestion and protect our skins barrier.
At Let’s Face It Beauty Studio, we believe in taking a holistic approach when treating your skin. That is why we are offering free online skin consultations during this time. Get in contact with one of our therapists today to receive a fully tailor made skin care prescription.
A professional skin consultation should be the first step you take when you’re considering starting treatments or skincare. The process allows you to gain advice on what is best for your individual needs and concerns. We often have new clients visit who have previously had treatments or bought skincare without really knowing why.
We recommend skin consultations to every new client that visits or enquires. It’s the only way we can provide you with our expert advice and help you achieve your desired results. It’s also a great feeling hearing advice from a skin expert who is keen to help you. We follow a skin consultation process before any treatments are conducted.
Step 1, Filling out consultation form:
A consultation form will be given to you on arrival, this form contains general and lifestyle information, medical history and current skin routine questions. This form gives us an indication of how you’re currently looking after your skin, what could be causing certain concerns and any medication we need to be aware of.
Step 2, Observ Skin Analysis:
We take complimentary skin analysis photographs using our Observ 520. This machine takes 6 different images, showing us the surface layers to the deeper layers of the skin. We take these images for every new and existing client, it’s a great way to see the progression of your skin.
Step 3 The Discussion:
This step is the most important for us, this is where we are able to connect with you and figure out why you have decided to visit us. We discuss your skin history, health, lifestyle, current skincare routine and several other factors that could be contributing. There is always a reason as to why the skin is the way it is.
Step 4 Visual Analysis:
We proceed to take you through into one of our facial rooms, to look at and feel your skin. This step allows us to visually see concerns such as pigmentation, rosacea, oil flow, dehydration, congestion, dryness and many more. The feel of the skin can be a huge concern to you, however small changes we recommend on the day can start improving that. We always look under the magnifying lamp to see pore size, blackheads, texture and any other concerns you may not have pointed out.
Step 5 Recommendations:
Skin consultations can be overwhelming with information, we always approach the skin holistically which allows us to achieve the best results, but it can be a lot to take in on your first visit. To make this process easier for you, we always write down everything we have discussed during your consult. You will be taking home a tailored skincare home prescriptive booklet; skin treatment recommendations and any lifestyle and/or diet changes we discussed. Helping you along during your skin journey is our passion. We connect with every client that visits and love bringing you towards your skin goals.
Don’t wait another day, we can help your skin now!!

Enzyme Therapy is a facial treatment that stimulates your capillaries by dilating the channels to allow fresh oxygen & blood flow to the face. It exfoliates dead skin cells into a weak acid & flushes them from the skin. The Plasmatic effect that shows up on the skin after your treatment, is the visual representation of the capillaries flushing around the skin cells removing debris through lymphatic drainage. This process eliminates build up & toxins, leaving healthy, nutrience filled skin.
What is an Enzyme?
Enzymes are a protein, that have the ability to build up & break down substances within our skin & body. They can rapidly speed up processes & are responsible for virtually every chemical reaction that take place within our cells. Danne Montague King known as DMK, became one of the first biochemists to recognise the power of transfer messenger enzymes to hydrate & tighten the skin. His products provide skin cells with ingredient that they recognise & will use to replace what is missing.
What is the difference between Enzyme Therapy & other skin treatments?
Most skin treatments out today work on the surface of the skin. Enzyme Therapy goes much further working on the structure & functions of our skin, which means it works topically & also stimulates functions internally. This ensures long term solutions to your skin concerns.
What does it feel like?
Enzyme Therapy is a powder & liquid solution, applied from the chest up over the face. As it sets over the 45 minute setting time, it starts to harden & tighten, stimulating your blood flow & lymphatic system. You will feel the pulsating effect of your blood flow & the feeling of tight skin. It does not hurt or feel painful in anyway. For the first time clients it does feel different to anything you would have experienced before in a facial. To remove we simply apply a hot towel to soften the solution followed by cleansing the skin.
What are the benefits?
Enzyme Therapy is full of amazing benefits for the skin. It helps improve the clarity & health of your skin by clearing waste & toxins from the body. Enzyme Therapy feeds every cell in your body the nutrients it needs to function optimally. This ensures your skin is restored with it’s vitamins, minerals & amino acids to keep a youthful & healthy complexion. We are able to customise your Enzyme Therapy treatment to your concerns. Enzyme Therapy is very versatile, it is used to treat a wide range of concerns including ageing, pigmentation, acne, congestion, rosacea & more.
Do I need to use skin care?
Absolutely, skin care at home is a must. You’re with your skin every single day. By feeding your skin what is needs to function optimally morning & night, improves your skins health dramatically. We also get you to do at home treatments 1-2 times a week when you’re on a skin journey with us. This helps speed your results up, keeping your skin fresh & clear.
Will I get the same lymphatic drainage from a microdermabrasion?
Unfortunately no. Enzyme Therapy works on a much deeper level compared to microdermabrasion which only buffs the top layer of the skin. You definitely get lymphatic drainage from a microdermabrasion, through the stimulation & flushing movements. Although it is not as effective when compared to an Enzyme Therapy Treatment.
Can anyone have Enzyme Therapy?
Yes, we will always do a skin & lifestyle consultation before any treatment to ensure this treatment is right for your skin.
How long is the treatment & how much does it cost?
Enzyme Therapy is 1.5 hour treatment & costs between $139 for basic to $229 for advanced. The more advanced treatments, include a pre-exfoliation which is done before your Enzyme Therapy to target your concerns & increase the benefits of each treatment.
Will I see a difference after one treatment?
Definitely, the skin is glowing after an Enzyme Treatment. As you see the plasmatic effect on the chest & face, showing fresh nutrients being delivered to the skin. The skin is plump, hydrated & leaves you wanting more!
How often should I have an Enzyme Treatment?
Depending on what your skin concerns are, we would advise every 2-4 weeks to obtain proper skin revision. In cases of severe acne or impaired skin, we will sometimes need to treat you on a weekly basis.
Taking care of your skin can seem like a lot of work. When you think about it, this should be one of our main priorities. For most of us we’d like to keep our youthful appearance for as long as possible & to do this we need to put in some effort. Our skin has to last us quite a few years so getting on top of maintenance now, will prevent putting in the work later. Here at Let’s Face It, we are all for ageing gracefully. This blog post is for us to pass on some insider tips & tricks for keeping a youthful glow!
10 ways to reduce the signs of ageing:
Always wear sun protection. Rain, hail or shine: The sun is always out. Whether you’re running errands all day or simply walking to your car in the morning, the sun will hit you! Sun protection is your number 1 anti-aging solution. We are exposed to UVA/UVB more than you would think. Photo aging is caused by UV radiation from the sun, not from its heat. Look for a broad-spectrum SPF with the highest factor you can get your hands on. In Australia our sun is extremely harsh & can age our skin dramatically. Wearing an SPF every-day, all year round is a necessity here. You don’t want to wake up in the morning leave the house & the sun has already taken away all the collagen your body was building over-night. Can’t stress this enough, SPF is your anti-ageing savior!!
Choose your skincare products wisely: Using quality skin care that has been tried & tested on all skins is the way to go. They’re full of ingredients that mimic our skins make-up, active ingredients & botanical ingredients. Paramedical skin care & cosmeceutical skin care are formulated to replace what the skin is lacking & use ingredients that our bodies recognize, which means they will take on those ingredients quickly, compared to a cosmetic brand skin care. A few products that everyone should have in their skin care routine are:
Vitamin C: It is a strong antioxidant that prevents free radical damage, inhibits pigmentation & restores collagen & elastin back into the skin. Our vitamin C, which is our collagen/elastin start to deplete when we hit 21 and continues to decrease by 1% every year from then. Which means we need to start to replace that to ensure firm, youthful skin.
Vitamin A: Is your cells regulator. Keeps your skin on track & under control. Vitamin A keeps our skin plump, strong & also boosts our collagen production. It has exfoliating properties, as a nighttime treatment this will help to give you a brighter, healthier appearance when you wake up in the morning. Also amazing for breakout & congestion, bonus!
Eye cream: The skin around our eyes is very delicate & starts to crease extremely early. Starting an eye cream at a young age, will help to keep that area hydrated, plump & nourished, preventing the skin from forming fine-lines.
Our recommendations: DMK Direct Delivery Vitamin C. Vitamin A: DMK Revitosin & Revise-A. Eye cream: DMK’s Eye-Tone, Fine Lines & Eye Web. Check out our blog: Cleansing 101 -Proper cleansing is extremely anti-ageing.
Moisturizer is your new best friend: People who are naturally born with oiler skin will age slower, due to the hydration levels they hold. This doesn’t mean they don’t need to moisturizer, this means for those of us who are on the normal to dry scale need to keep up with them. Moisturizers lock in hydration & protect our skin’s barrier function from becoming stripped, red, dry, congested & wrinkled. Using a moisturizing face mask once a week, will also restore, boost hydration & plump the skin. Remember to never leave out your neck & hands as well!
Drink as much water as you can, daily: The more you drink the higher your hydration levels will be. Dehydration becomes more common as we age because of the skin’s lacking ability to hold moisture. Get drinking ladies!
Smoking & Diet: You think this would be a no-brainer, that smoking leads to wrinkles. Yet, most people don’t realize that smoking is the reason their skin is sluggish, dull & lifeless. One cigarette depletes your entire Vitamin C for 24-36 hours, if you have more than one a day, your Vitamin C is almost always depleted. Diet is a massive contributor as well. Eat healthy & eat properly. Reduce your packaged food intake & eat an abundance of fruits, vegetables, omega’s & essential fatty acids. Good fats are also extremely important they create healthy cell membranes, which creates subtle skin.
Exfoliating with care: We only need to exfoliate once a week. A liquid or extremely lightly beaded scrub will do the job. Over-exfoliating leads to breaks in the skin causing moisture to escape. This will strip your natural oils causing dry, brittle skin. Be gentle to your skin, use soft towels when drying your face & pat dry. Any frisk, rough movements can cause further damage.
Eat less sugar: Sugar accelerates glycation, which is the process of excess glucose being in the bloodstream causing collagen & elastin to turn brittle & soft. This results in deep-seeded wrinkles as the collagen & elastin collapse in the skin. Try to replace your craving with natural sweet foods. Yes, this unfortunately includes wine!!
Get your beauty sleep: Sleep is the time where our bodies repair, restore & grow new cells. If you struggle with sleep, look into natural remedies or a botanical supplement that will help you relax. Never sleep in your makeup: It clogs your pores & over time stretches the pores causing collagen breakdown. If you struggle with removing it at night, look into using Micellar water. They get the job done, quick & easy.
Regular facial treatments are so important: Facials are not only time dedicated to yourself for relaxation. They’re amazing at increasing fresh blood flow, removing & flushing toxins, lymphatic drainage & fighting premature ageing. Fortnightly or monthly facials are a must, especially if you’re already suffering from skin issues. Skin revision is an on-going journey, that will help to maintain your skin through any changes or conditions. Top tip for those already seeing signs of ageing, facials will give you back that healthy, glowy skin.
Exercise is key: Exercise, as we know, is important for overall health & well-being. Exercise gets your blood flow pumping, releases built-up toxins & remove waste through lymphatic drainage. Exercise is your little secret to healthy, glowing skin! A happy body leads to a happy, plump complexion.
Consider taking on these helpful tips & remember ageing is natural process, so be kind to yourself. The more effort you put in the better your skin will benefit! For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us! We’d love to hear your feedback!
Dermapen uses surgical grade tiny micro needles, to stimulate an inflammatory or a wound healing response in the skin. This process promotes a repair, renewal and rejuvenation response. Natural growth factors are released to stimulate fresh restructured collagen & elastin. Dermapen directly targets three major cell types (keratinocytes, melanocytes & fibroblasts) which promotes a controlled, scar less wound response. Dermapen creates micro channels in the skin encouraging oxygenation, which kills the acne causing bacteria. It has adjustable needle depths to allow us to target specific skin layers, cells & individual skin concerns. This is a fast treatment for comfort, with minimal pain. The pen is moved over the skin in a lymphatic drainage sequence, we apply slip onto the skin, so the pen can glide over all areas.
Why should I have a skin needling treatment?
If you’re suffering from a skin condition or would like a more youthful appearance. Skin needling is the only treatment that directly stimulates your own body’s collagen & elastin production. This encourages rejuvenation in the skin layers, resulting in firmer, tighter skin.
What can skin needling treat & can anyone have a skin needling treatment?
Dermapen can treat most skin conditions & all skin types/tones, having controlled wound healing enables us to treat any problem. Depending on the skin condition, we adjust the treatment to whether we are looking for an inflammation response or a wound healing. We can treat skin & body concerns with Dermapen.
Dermapen can treat:
Fine lines/ Wrinkles
Scarring/ Pitted Scarring
What can I expect after a skin needling treatment?
After a Dermapen treatment you will experience erythema similar to the appearance & sensation of mild sunburn. This will last up to 24 hrs. and will decrease as the time goes. Your skin can feel quite tender the day after your treatment. We will advise you with proper after-care & ways to sooth any discomfort. You can wear mineral or paramedical make-up to cover any redness. More often than not, your skin will only feel uncomfortable for the day of your treatment.
How soon will I see results?
You will see a difference in your texture & complexion after once treatment, although we advise having a course of Dermapen Treatments to achieve your desired results. Scarring, acne, mature skin, pigmentation & congestion have most likely been there for many years, which means it will take time to treat & revise these conditions.
Should my first facial be a skin needling treatment?
We always recommend having a skin consultation before any facial treatment. With a Dermapen facial you can start off on them straight away, although we will advise you whether this will suit your skin. Sometimes clients need to start on strengthening their skin back to a healthy state & then treating it with Dermapen.
Is Microdermabrasion facials going to achieve the same results?
Microdermabrasion is resurfacing treatment that remove dead skin cell build up, leaving the skin smooth & retextured. Unfortunately, microdermabrasion will not treat or target your skin concerns, like Dermapen can. Microdermabrasion works topically to buff & polish the top layer of the skin. Dermapen works deep down in the layers of the skin, where your collagen & elastin production is. Dermapen penetrates through the layers to stimulate your own rejuvenation process.
Will my skin continue to bleed?
If we are treating your skin for a wound healing response, your skin will show up with pin point bleeding in the areas we are wanting that response. Skin needling has come a long way over the years, excess bleeding & topical anesthetics are not needed with a Dermapen Treatment. Dermapen has been designed to give you amazing results with minimal discomfort. A topical mask is applied after your treatment to help sooth any discomfort & drench your skin in botanical & active ingredients.
How often would I need to have a skin needling treatment?
Depending on what skin concern we are treating, we will advise you on how often we would like you to come in for your treatment. To give you an idea, if we are treating an acne skin every 2 week for your treatment, for collagen induction every 6-8 weeks.
Can I have Skin Needling in conjunction with other treatments?
Yes, we often combined Dermapen with other treatments such as DMK Enzyme Therapy. We often do a Dermapen treatment then apply enzyme therapy to stimulate more nutrients & blood to the skin. We also alternate Dermapen Treatments with others, to target different aspects of your skin condition. We can also set up a treatment plan specifically for you, explaining what treatment combination would best suit you.

Our stomachs do more than just break down food, in fact, we underestimate how much it contributes to our functioning bodies. You may have heard the saying “everything starts in the gut”, this statement has been proven true. We know diseases, inflammation, bloating, discomfort & gas start there, but did you know skin conditions start there too? If your digestive system doesn’t function properly, everything else will start to follow.
A good digestive system will absorb nutrients & vitamins along with eliminating waste. If yours isn’t working properly, you will not be releasing toxins from the body or gaining any nutrients from food. It doesn’t matter how much organic food you eat or how many supplements you take. If your gut function isn’t working you will not be in proper health. You must address your gut function issues to ensure proper absorption of minerals & vitamins. If you find yourself intolerant to most foods, it’s not the food that’s the issue, it’s the environment the food is going into.
These days, we have several options for our diet choices, yet we are still getting it wrong. Syndromes such as leaky gut have become very common recently. Leaky gut is the term used to describe holes on the digestive intestinal tract. Bacteria, food particles & toxic waste leaks from the gut, causing the bloodstream to collect the waste. This is the cause for several issues, including one we see almost every day, inflamed skin. The overgrowth of bad bacteria in the body leads to inflammation, this induces a stress response to your system. The stress response then brings on things like acne, eczema, rosacea, dermatitis, redness, dry skin, clogged skins etc. If your gut isn’t excreting waste your lymphatic system is very sluggish, which means your blood isn’t circulating properly. Resulting in these inflamed skin conditions & stomach issues (bloating, irritation).
Leaky gut can be fixed with a change in diet, proper supplementation & a process of elimination. Foods to avoid when these conditions arise are dairy products, gluten, refined sugar, caffeine, alcohol, artificial sweeteners, processed foods, deli meats, red peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, potatoes – these vegetables are known as ’nightshade foods’. It’s important to avoid any foods your body treats as toxins. Foods that will help replenish & restore a leaky gut include steamed vegetables, they’re full of vitamin b which helps break down the food reducing inflammation & build up. Other food sources that can help are: coconut milk & yogurt, coconut oil, almond milk, avocado, healthy fats, turmeric, marshmallow root tea, peppermint tea, kimchi, sauerkraut, restorative supplements, essential fatty acids (click this link to read more about EFA benefits)
To heal the skin, we believe in a holistic approach. This ensures we are covering all the possibilities from gut health, sleep, lifestyle, hormones, stress levels to skin care. Gut health is such a big component to any skin revision. Treating the skin can only do so much, when the issues are coming from within the gut, therefore, addressing both will deliver the results.
Today 95% of supplements sold are synthetic, if you’re paying around $12 for a bottle of 120 supplements, the ingredients are not doing you any good. Supplements can be incredible at healing the body & skin, but it all comes down to the ingredients & how they’re manufactured. Natural plant-based herbs & ingredients have proven to be the best sources for supplementation. Herbal medicines are nutrient filled & extremely soothing to the body, they’re used to treat several issues that come up in our bodies. If you’re suffering from gut issues or skin dysfunctions, we provide a digestive tune-up program from basic to advanced, that can help get your body back on track! For further information on this topic, don’t hesitate to contact us via email: email@example.com, phone: 93542718 or visit us in the salon!
It’s no secret winter weather can hit our skin hard. If you’re experiencing dryness, dehydration, flaky skin, uneven texture or unexplained redness, you’re not alone. It is extremely common during the colder months for your skin to freak out a little. Luckily, we have some advice on how to treat it.
These symptoms can appear for many reasons, the most common being Transepidermal Water Loss (or TEWL for short). TEWL occurs when the water stored deeper down in our skin layers, makes its way up to the top layer (epidermis) and evaporates out. Basically, our skin loses moisture. TEWL typically occurs when our epidermis isn’t being properly looked after. Our skin has a protective barrier (the acid mantle) that protects us against the elements, it is made up of water & fatty acids (oil). Our barrier function mediates between the good & bad to maintain healthy skin – it’s an extremely important function, determining what to keep in & what to keep out of our skin. For instance, it keeps toxins & pollutants out, water & nutrients in. Given the important role the skin’s barrier has in ensuring overall wellness of your skin, it is crucial to care for it. A lot of people mistakenly think they have “sensitive skin” when in fact, they have sensitised skin due to TEWL occurring. As the barrier function is impaired, it means their skin is sensitised to most things.
Harsh cleansers, too much exfoliating, not applying moisturiser or the wrong type of moisturiser can damage your skins barrier function, allowing TEWL to occur. When water evaporates fast from the skin, the body can’t replace it in time leading to the skin drying out. When this happens, things like dehydration, redness, eczema, dermatitis, rosacea, itchiness, breakouts & uneven patchy skin starts to occur. If you have these symptoms, your barrier is impaired & needs to be nourished back in balance. To achieve this internal & external care needs to be considered.
Here are some tips to re-balance your skin’s barrier (acid mantle):
Invest in a good cleanser. Cleansers that are not right for you, can strip your skin after only one wash, further impairing your barrier & allowing water to evaporate. This can cause redness, stinging & stripping of your natural oils.
Drinking water isn’t enough. Your skin is the last organ in the body to get the benefits of drinking water. Start to introduce Essential Fatty Acids to your diet through supplementation. They help bring water levels up in the skin as well as liquidise your oils evenly across the top layer of the skin, helping to rebalance a striped barrier.
Stop using face wipes to remove makeup & products. They might be quick and easy, but they are not doing your skin any favors. Try Micellar water like the Ultraceuticals B2 Micellar Water instead. It is formulated to keep your skin hydrated whilst effectively clearing makeup.
Be gentle with your skin. It does not need to be scrubbed every-day. Over-exfoliating creates gaps on the surface of your skin that will cause water to escape. Exfoliate using a peel or fine rounded beaded exfoliant, only once a week to remove dead skin cell build up. This will ensure your skin stays smooth & your products will penetrate the skin better.
The cold weather causes poor circulation – having regular salon treatments such as the Enzyme Therapy will help stimulate your circulation – encouraging waste removal & fresh blood to the cells.
If you don’t already, start to have regular facial treatments. We advise every two weeks to bring your skin back to a healthy state, then once a month to maintain these results.
Choose foods with high water content, drink herbal teas & increase omega 3’s to help increase your daily intake. Reduce caffeine & alcohol intake as it dehydrates your skin further.
Always use sunscreen to protect your skin, the sun is still present in winter & we all know how harsh it can be.
Add a hydrating mask or a strengthening mask to your skincare routine once a week, this will help encourage hydration & nourishment where it needs to be. DMK Hydrating mask is essential during winter. Always apply a mask after you exfoliate to nourish & restore the skin.
Add a skin oil to your skincare routine. They nourish & protect your skin barrier. I will explain this further down below.
Hot water temperatures can also encourage water loss, as the pores open allowing more moisture to evaporate. Try having warm water showers instead of hot showers.
Invest in a proper moisturiser. Chemist/supermarket brought moisturisers sit on top of the skin & do not penetrate through, as they do not have active ingredients in them. They create a film cross the top layer & do not move. This is not going to resolve your dry skin. Let me explain further.
Moisturising is an extremely important step in your home-care routine, even more so in winter. You need a moisturiser that is going to move deep down into the lower layers of the skin, where the ingredients & nourishment can be utilised. Using a proper moisturiser can decrease TEWL by 98%. It seals the ingredients in, preventing water from evaporating out so quickly. DMK moisturisers are amazing at this- they’re formulated to be sprayed into the skin using Herb & Mineral mist, so they don’t just sit on top of the skin but penetrate deep down into the skin layers.
On average we lose up to two cups of water from our skin every-day. This is where skin oils come into play, they put balance back into your skins protective layer. Your protective barrier is made up of fatty acids (oil) and water, so it makes sense why you need to replace it. However, you can’t use just any old oil, it needs to be a fractionated oil. If your oil can be solid, it will sit solidly on the skin, which will prevent it from helping. Products such as DMK Seba-e oil or Herbal Pigment Oil are effective at maintaining the barrier of your skin by preventing TEWL. DMK oils are an exact replacer of our skins protective barrier. How amazing! Your skin will take on these ingredients as if they were formulated organically. Seba-e & Herbal Pigment Oil also include Essential Fatty Acid properties, which allows you to nourish topically with EFA’s as well as internally with supplements.
If you have some of the symptoms we have listed relating to dry skin, don’t worry! We can help you get started with treating them. A great way to see change quickly is by taking Essential Fatty Acids. They make such a big difference in your skins hydration levels. If you noticed from the tips provided above, you are missing things from your routine – start these changes today. Making a few adjustments to your lifestyle will prevent your skin’s barrier from stripping & improve its overall health. We hope these tips help you get through the colder months & put in place some much needed change. Always feel free to contact us with any questions or queries regarding your skin concerns, we are here to help! For further information on EFA’s check out our blog post here to read up on the amazing benefits.
For those of you who have never come across this medication before, let me explain what it is & what it does. It is a Dermatologist prescribed Acne medication that is derived from synthetic Vitamin-A, as an anti-inflammatory drug that attacks your oil glands to shut them down.
You may have never come across this particular drug before but as therapists we are very familiar with it. It is something that we must be aware of for every treatment that we perform, as we can cause damage to your skin if unaware. For instance, waxing is not allowed when on Roaccutane because it causes your skin to thin, it would be easy for us to take skin off during a treatment. The common skin side effects for Roaccutane are dermatitis, very dry skin, blood noses, dry lips, fragile skin, red rashes, scaly skin, sun sensitive, thin skin & more. The even scarier common side effects are the ones that happen internally such as depression, anxiety, slow healing, cysts & more.
This acne drug is extremely aggressive as it is drying out your oil production to reduce pimples forming. Keep in mind it is drying out your entire body not just the skin on your face. When taking it you should have regular doctor’s appointments as well as blood tests to ensure the chemicals aren’t harming your internal organs. Most people who are on Roaccutane do not know that it is in fact an anti-cancer chemotherapy drug, in other words, poison to the body. We have found through experience, that client’s who do go on the drug, seem to have other issues arise. For instance, skin takes longer to heal, bruising easily, early signs of ageing, permeant thinned skin, burning easily when in the sun, PCO (polycystic ovaries) & stomach issues. Another problem with going on Roaccutane to treat your skin is that it’s a requirement that you take the contraceptive pill, even if you aren’t sexually active yet to avoid the possibility of you falling pregnant. As Roaccutane can cause serious birth defects & harm to a growing foetus.
Saying all of this, Roaccutane is effective at clearing up your pimples…but at what cost? It’s like a band-aid effect, it will clear it up, but it is not going to treat the core source of the problem. You’re guaranteed to be on more than one course of the drug & you will have other issues arise after you finish the course. Your skin will be left dry, thin, oil glands out of sorts & red vascular or pitted scarring.
As skin therapists we find it extremely frustrating to understand why Dermatologists recommended something that is so harmful & aggressive. Treating acne is hard & it does take time, it’s like going to the gym. You are not going to get results by going once a week & eating unhealthy food. You need to dedicate time and invest your money if you want to see results. Changing diet, reducing stress levels, looking after gut health, increasing exercise, using home care recommended & having in salon treatments is the combination you need, to properly change & resolve any skin condition. We believe in holistic long-term solutions over quick fixes. As we have seen time & time again the skin issue keeps returning if the client is using a quick fix. We understand Acne is an awful thing to go through, so we would never judge someone for taking the Roaccutane route. We do strongly advise you to explore your options, visit a skin clinic & choose long-term skin health over temporary relief.
Figuring out why your acne has come up is how we start to treat it. There is not one answer for everyone; we eliminate as many possibilities as we can through recommending change. It could be as simple as changing some diet choices, for your skin to start to heal. Skin needs to be treated carefully & properly for it to heal. Treating it aggressively through Roaccutane or another medication, isn’t allowing it to heal properly. Our skin produces oil for a reason, it keeps our skin protected, hydrated & youthful. Shutting that skin function down will lead to other dysfunctions arising. The skin needs a combination of tools to stay healthy, the same way it needs a combination of tools when being treated. Research all your options before jumping into any kind of acne medication. Treating skin is something we love to do here at Let’s Face It, we are always here to help guide you through these decisions & happy to help with any skin issues you may have.
Essential Fatty Acids, are fatty acids that our bodies require to ensure they’re functioning properly. They affect many aspects of our health, including our skin, hair & nails. These fatty acids are your Omega 3,6,7 & 9. Our bodies aren’t able to synthesize these fatty acids so including them in your daily routine is a must!
We often hear about Omega Fatty Acids, but not many people look into why they’re so important when it comes to our health. Studies have shown EFA’s promote heart health, relieve bloating, support gut health, can help to fight depression and relieve inflammation from the body. They’re not only a part of keeping your body healthy, they also play a major role in keeping your skin healthy.
A skin that is lacking in EFA’s could have or lead to these symptoms:
You may be thinking because you eat fish a few times a week that you’re covered for your essential fatty acid intake -this is in fact false. We do not get enough EFA consumption through our diets nor is it the best source for us anymore. This is because the Omega’s from fish come from the Algae they’re eating.
A better option would be to take EFA tablets every day containing plant based or botanical omegas. A good quality EFA tablet will ensure the proper delivery of the omegas throughout your body. After 7-14 days you will see the benefits they have on both your body & skin. You can also start to include them into your diet every day, through food sources such as: flaxseeds, chia seeds, evening primrose oil, soy beans, sea-buckthorn oil, pumpkin seeds, coconut oil, hempseeds, walnuts, sunflower oil, avocados & more.
If you’re someone who is suffering from skin issues, EFA’s are an absolute must to improve your skin. If you’re supporting your gut health with EFA’s, your concerns will start to clear a lot quicker. Omega’s are the building blocks of healthy cell membranes. If your cells aren’t producing properly, issues will keep returning & may never clear. EFA’s keep important things like water & nutrients in your cells to keep your skin hydrated & plump, whilst also excrete fats & cell waste. Supporting your skin internally is vital for skin health.
One of the reasons we brought DMK into the salon, was because they provided products & treatments that support the external skin but also the internal functions. DMK provide EFA tablets that are made from botanical sources containing minerals, vitamins, amino acids & omega’s 3,6,7 & 9. Omega 7 Sea-buckthorn oil, isn’t often found in supplements because it is expensive to source. DMK EFA’s are made from the highest quality ingredients & sourced from the purest forms found. The health benefits go beyond a normal EFA supplement.
For example, some of the ingredients are:
Sea-buckthorn Oil: It is rich in minerals, a rare source of omega 7, also soothing & nourishing to the skin.
Coconut oil: Protects against infection, wound healing & skin rejuvenation.
Evening Primrose Oil: Increases water levels in the skin whilst preventing water loss & improves structural integrity of the skin while improving its barrier function.
We always recommend EFA’s to all of our clients on skin journey’s because we truly believe gut health makes such a big difference. They’re a vital part of improving skin concerns & prevent the issues from reappearing. Working on a skin journey takes time & dedication from both, the skin specialist & the client. We put our most knowledgeable information forward, because we believe in helping clients achieve the skin they have always dreamed of having!
